If you want to become a coach I would highly recommend the Coaches Training Institute (CTI) as one which provides outstanding training to become a professional coach. As the largest coach training organisation worldwide with programmes offered across the globe and accredited by the ICF (International Coaching Federation) it helps its delegates develop their skills in the Coactive Approach to coaching.
So why do I can recommend CTI? I was first introduced to Coactive Coaching many years ago when I bought Co-active Coaching: New Skills for Coaching People Toward Success in Work and Life by Laura Whitworth, Henry Kimsey-House, Karen Kimsey-House, and Phil Sandahl and subsequently incorporated many of the tools and techniques into my way of working.
I was then coached (and still am) by an amazing coach and on learning that he was trained in the Coactive Approach decided to enrol myself on the Coaches Training Institute Fundamentals programme which over 2 ½ days gives an insight into the Coactive Approach. I was so blown away by this programme that I immediately enrolled on their Core Curriculum which has proved to be the best investment I have made in my coaching career to date.
Although I have undergone various coach training programmes including The Certificate in Coaching Practice, a nine month programme run by Coaching and Mentoring International (latterly taken over by the Coaching Academy), the initial taster weekend offered by the Coaching Academy which is now referred to as their Certificate in Coaching and another credit recognized programme which introduced me to the Solutions Focus approach to coaching) the CTI Core Curriculum Programme is undoubtedly the most thorough and effective coach training I have undergone and this is demonstrated by the feedback I now receive from my clients.
What I like about it is that it really equips you to go out and coach people in any situation as it addresses a person’s whole life and not just one specific area and equips you with a huge toolbox of skills, tools and techniques. It also fits in with my own philosophy of coaching that an individual has the answers within and so as a coach you are there to help the client access their own solutions and not impose your own. And not to be under-estimated going through the programme also gives every delegate the opportunity to experience their own most incredible journey of personal insight and change, essential if you are going to coach others to do the same.
The CTI coaching curriculum is accredited by the International Coach Federation (ICF) and following the Core Curriculum The Coaches Training Institute offers the opportunity to take the route to certification by ICF.
In summary if you are serious about developing yourself as a coach then you need to be prepared to invest both time and money into yourself. Free programmes are OK to give you a taste for what a coaching career can bring you however they never equip your with the necessary skills, tools and techniques to become a credible professional coach.
