Sales Coaching

Sales coaching is focused on the improvement of a very specific skill set, selling skills to enable individuals and teams to sell more effectively.

Many ‘coaches’ offering coaching for salespeople are not true non-directive coaches. They offer you tools, advice and techniques to improve your selling skills, in which case they are technically trainers imparting their own skills and knowledge.

Having said that your coach will typically work with you to develop your skills and the coaching programme will be tailored to your individual needs. This will be depending on your current skill level and tailored to the type of selling that you will be doing. Often this style of coaching will complement formal sales training whereby the coach will help the you identify your strengths and areas for further development..

In an organisation where there is a strong coaching culture often the sales manager will provide on going on-the job coaching to their team members.

Sales Coaching is typically beneficial when…

  • you have received formal sales training or already have a level of competence and the coaching is used to improve selling skills further
  • as a manager you need an increased level of performance from your own salespeople so they can sell more effectively
