As an overview this book is an excellent resource containing a thorough discussion about anxiety and its manifestations including general anxiety disorder, social anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, phobias, health anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.
The author then examines the anatomy of anxiety, biological, mental and emotional giving case studies and exercises dealing with all three spheres. What is most useful are the tools she provides to tackle some of the trigger situation and self assessment questionnaires. A 60 min CD containing some of these tools accompanies the book.
Who Would Benefit From Reading This Book and why?
If you are a coach wanting hands on powerful tools that can be accessed immediately. As well as the usual, challenging limiting beliefs and the use of affirmations she discusses in some depth Thought Field Therapy and Hypnosis. The book concludes with an interesting final chapter, putting it all together, which takes a number of disorders and through brief succinct exercises takes you through a selection of tools to deal with each. For example the General Anxiety section offers six exercises beginning with problems vs outcomes, challenging beliefs about worry, thought field therapy, controlling worry and finally a hypnosis script for general anxiety. I’ve no doubt the package as a whole would go a long way in dealing with your client’s anxiety issues
I find the book a useful resource to dip into when faced with unexpected anxiety issues during coaching. Particularly useful is the chapter on TFT and the step by step guide to tapping the energy meridians. I was delighted when my last client on whom I used TFT reported her anxiety had disappeared completely!
Anxiety tool box is a must have resource in the Coaches’ library.
