Coaching for Performance
John Whitmore
2002
This book is "the book" for learning about coaching. It's an easy book to read covering the fundamental basics about coaching in the business world. Sir John Whitmore, is considered to be the founder of "coaching" as a theory. His model
GROW coaching model is considered to be the most popular of coaching models. Essentially this book covers what coaching is about and where and how can coaching be implemented.
Whatever type of coach you are this book is useful as it covers the GROW model in detail but in a practical way. This book is also fantastic if you are a manager who wants to use a non directive / more empowering approach to managing your staff.
Whether you are a coach or a manager this is a great book to read and use. As a coach I believe this is a book to own and digest. I think having a good understanding of the fundamentals of coaching and the GROW model will always hold you in good stead whatever coaching situation arises. Being able to recall GROW quickly always helps me to gain clarity on any given situation. I liked the way Whitmore brings the GROW model to life by including a fictional dialogue.
